Martha Williamson, ceramic artist
Martha Williamson is a native of Spiddal Co. Galway whose interest in ceramics started when she became a trainee to Spiddal potter Rob d'Eath in 2009. She completed her ceramic training in Thomastown Co. Kilkenny and went on to win Crafts Council of Irelands Student of the Year Award 2012. Martha makes wheel work in porcelain, stoneware and white earthenware using a combination of slips, press moulds, glazes and decals to decorate her pieces. Best known for her hand decorated zebra pattern black and white porcelain pots, her work has been described as whimsical. "I want the pots to have their own personalities and I like the idea that when the day's work is done, the lights are off and the workshop's doors are locked, that maybe the pots come to life..."
